Chennai Super Kings won both the matches against their arch rivals Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 season. After defeating Mumbai badly at its home Wankhede Stadium a few days ago, Chennai registered an easy win at its home ground this time too. In the 44th match of IPL 2026 played at Chepauk Stadium, Chennai won by 8 wickets with the help of strong performance by Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmed and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Mumbai had to face its 7th defeat this season.
In this match played on Saturday, May 2, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya had won the toss and decided to bat himself. But despite this, the team could not take advantage of this and could score only 159 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Naman Dhir played an inning of 57 runs for Mumbai, while the opener Ryan Rickleton Also scored 37 runs quickly. But captain Hardik Pandya caused loss to the team by scoring only 18 runs in 23 balls.
As far as bowling is concerned, Chennai once again saw the magic of fast bowler Anshul Kamboj, who gave only 32 runs in his 4 overs and took 3 wickets. Whereas spinner Noor Ahmed took 2 wickets while conceding only 26 runs. Apart from these, the spell of Jamie Overton (1/23) was also strong.
To win this match, Mumbai needed better bowling than CSK and it started in the same manner. In the second over itself, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Sanju Samson who was in excellent form. But captain Gaikwad, who was back in form, maintained the lead and Urvil Patel (24) provided good support by helping in the 49-run partnership. But the real magic was seen in the partnership between Gaikwad and young batsman Karthik Sharma.
Karthik, who came as an impact player, along with the captain, slowly led the team towards the target and did not give any chance to Mumbai to make a comeback. During this, Gaikwad (67 not out) completed his second consecutive half-century, while coming closer to victory, Karthik (54 not out) also completed his first IPL fifty. Ultimately, with a partnership of 98 runs, Chennai achieved this target in just 18.1 overs and registered its fourth win in the season.
