Mumbai Indians’ abject IPL 2026 continued with an eight-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 2.
With this defeat, Hardik Pandya’s side now has four points from nine matches with two wins and seven defeats, and a Net Run Rate of -0.803.

However, it will hold onto the small glimmer of hope that it has not been knocked out of the competition yet. If it were to win all five of its remaining matches, it would reach 14 points, which could still be enough to qualify.
However, it will need other results to go its way as Rajasthan Royals, which is currently in fourth, already has 12 points.
