IPL 2026: Delhi Capitals Captain Axar Patel Penalized Rs 12 Lakh

Axar Patel Fined Rs 12 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate

IPL officials hit a huge Rs 12 lakh fine on Axar Patel.

The Delhi Capitals captain kept a slow over-rate during the PBKS match. This specifically violated Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

The penalty marks DC’s first over-rate offense this season fortunately for them. Repeat violations eventually bring heavier fines and potential match bans. Axar Patel must ensure better time management in the remaining matches now.

Match officials released an official notice confirming the fine immediately after the match.

Slow over-rates waste time and lower the joy value for fans watching. IPL takes these violations seriously to maintain match flow properly.

Despite the financial hit, Axar Patel played well with the bat scoring 56. His knock came when DC were struggling badly at 74/4. That innings revived their chase of 211 runs against PBKS.

How Delhi Capitals Won the Thriller in Dharamsala

Punjab Kings batted first posting a hard 210/5 in their 20 overs. Priyansh Arya hit 56 runs off 33 balls getting them started. Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls brilliantly.

Cooper Connolly added 38 runs supporting the middle order well throughout. That total looked extremely difficult on the Dharamsala pitch conditions honestly.

Delhi Capitals lost both openers KL Rahul and Abishek Porel cheaply early. Sahil Parakh and Tristan Stubbs also failed contributing virtually nothing significant. DC slumped to 74/4 facing a potential disaster looming large.

Then Axar Patel steadied the innings alongside David Miller’s explosive hitting. Miller scored 51 runs keeping the chase alive when required.

Youngsters Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari finished it off calmly.

They reached 216/7 in just 19 overs completing a memorable victory. Mitchell Starc and Madhav Tiwari grabbed two wickets each bowling earlier.

DC’s Slim Playoff Hopes Remain Alive

DC sits 7th on the table with 10 points. They’ve won 5 matches and lost 7 from 12 games played. Two league matches remain against RR and KKR ahead.

Winning both gets them to 14 points, the minimum playoff threshold usually. But they also need favorable results from other teams desperately now.

Their playoff chances remain extremely slim but mathematically possible still.
