Another season of IPL has proved to be bad for Team India's star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant, who is captaining Lucknow Super Giants, failed to take his team to the playoffs even in IPL 2026. His bat itself remained silent and except a few innings, he could not do anything special. Now it seems that this is going to affect his role in Team India because BCCI can relieve him of a big responsibility.

After the IPL 2026 season, Team India has to play a test match against Afghanistan, for which the team is yet to be selected. The report of news agency PTI has claimed that with this test match only Rishabh Pant Can be removed from the role of Test vice-captain of Team India. It has been told that the selection committee is not satisfied with Pant's leadership abilities and may consider keeping him away from it.

Pant's batting is needed more than leadership.

Rishabh Pant was appointed the vice-captain of the Test team during the England tour last year, when Shubman Gill became the new captain of the team. But now this responsibility can be taken away from Pant because the opinion seems to be forming in the selection committee that the star wicketkeeper is not comfortable with the responsibility of leadership. In such a situation, the committee would like that Pant should pay full attention to regaining his form in batting and for this it seems certain that he will be removed from the vice-captaincy.

In the report, quoting BCCI sources, it has been said that the selection committee does not want that a match-winning batsman like Pant should not be able to play freely due to responsibilities like captaincy or vice-captaincy. The opinion is being formed in the committee that after coming into the leadership role, Pant has often failed to take right decisions even during his batting. In such a situation, the committee can free him from this burden, so that he can continue winning matches with his bat in Test cricket.

The bat has not played like a captain

Under Pant's captaincy, Lucknow could not reach the playoffs in 2 seasons. Before that, even while captaining Delhi Capitals, he could not do anything amazing and there too he faced failure. The problem is that as captain, he has not even scored runs with his bat. From IPL 2024 till now, only about 900 and a half runs have come from Pant's bat in 37 innings, while his average is around 30. During this period, he has been able to cross the 50 mark only 6 times.
