With reports suggesting that MS Dhoni is fully fit and will return to the IPL 2026 match, CSK vs SRH has raised doubts about the wk-batter’s grand farewell after the game.
Having missed the entire IPL 2026 season due to a calf injury, the 44-year-old might play his final home game for CSK against SRH at Chennai.
The scenario fits with MS Dhoni’s announcement himself mae five years ago. During CSK’s IPL title celebrations in 2021, Dhoni said he will play his final T20 game in Chennai.
“I have always planned my cricket. The last game I played was in Ranchi. The last home game in ODI was at my hometown in Ranchi. So, hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year or in five years’ time, we don’t really know,” said MS Dhoni.
With no match scheduled to be played in Chennai after this fixtures. Hence, there is strong chances that tonight could be the final time the Chepauk crowd sees MS Dhoni in action in CSK’s home venue.
The reports are strengnthend with Ravichandran Ashwin’s statment that there is good chance for the Wk-batsman will play against SRH. He also mentioned that MS Dhoni has been fity and ready to play for CSK over the last two to three games.
“I have a feeling that against Sunrisers Hyderabad, there is a good chance of MS Dhoni playing. Let’s wait and see how it goes. As far as I have heard, he has been ready to take the field for the last two to three games,” Ashwin said.
However, there are some reports suggesting that MS Dhoni is unlikely to play the fixture even as the impact player as it is understood that he has picked some fresh injury during training sessions.
On the eve of the game, Dhoni came to bat in nets for 30 minutes and have shown no discomfort. However, the CSK management have confirmed that he will not feature in the game until 100 per cent fit.
However, MS Dhoni will be at the venue and will take part in the lap of honour which is the ritual at the end of the last league match.
