Rahul Tripathi was heading towards a big score against Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 but was run out.

The right-handed batter accumulated 55 runs off 37 balls, packed with 7 fours and 1 six. Sunrisers Hyderabad were 39/4 at one stage but Tripathi and Heinrich Klaasen (32) added more than 60 runs to stage a fightback.

However, Varun Chakravarthy got the prized scalp of the South Africa batter. When Rahul and Abdul Samad were looking good, the needless run out of the former ended all hopes of the Orange Army.

Abdul played a cut shot, which was stopped by diving Andre Russell. The batter was watching the ball and Tripathi left his crease. The moment Samad saw his batting partner, he responded but it was late by then and the highest run-scorer had no time to return.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the wicket-keeper of Kolkata, wanted to hit at the non-striker’s end but soon realised that there was no batter at his end and took the bails off, leaving Rahul short of the crease.

The batter couldn’t take it and was seen crying on the stairs. He covered the face with his hands, looking dejected.
