Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is soon coming to an end, and there are just two games left this season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are already in the finals and await the winners of the Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals from the second qualifier. While the focus is on the massive two games left, sides that didn’t have a great season will be keen to put things right.
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif has taken the names of four players who could be sacked as captains ahead of the next season. The45-year-old went on to name Axar Patel of Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), as well as Hardik Pandya and Ruturaj Gaikwad from the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, respectively.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Kaif was asked by his fans to name the players who should be sacked as captain. The former batter was also asked to comment on Rishabh, to which he said, “Pant shouldn’t be the captain because, as a pure player, he has a good record with the bat. Pant has fallen out of the pecking order in Indian cricket, and he should just focus on his batting and keeping.”
Another fan asked him about Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, to which he said, “Rahane may be struggling with the bat, but his side did well to make a comeback after losing the first few games. They didn’t have some of their big names like Pathirana and Harshit Rana, even then he (Rahane) did a good job.”
In the same show, one fan asked the former Indian Under-19 World Cup-winning skipper to speak about Rajat Patidar. The 33-year-old from Madhya Pradesh led RCB to their first IPL title win last year, and his knock of 93 not out helped his side beat Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier and reach the finals.
To which he replied, “Patidar as a captain is a lot better this year. He doesn’t panic when under pressure, and that is a trait that is similar to MS Dhoni. He is also doing well with the bat and setting an example for his team.”
