Rajasthan Royals (RR) star batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi became very emotional after his team was out of Qualifier-2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). Despite giving one of the biggest and explosive performances of T20 batting in this tournament at the age of just 15, he could not take his team to the final.

After this defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT), all these statistics and orange cap meant nothing for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. While Gujarat players were celebrating reaching the final (titles clash) against defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Vaibhav was barely able to control his tears sitting in the dugout.

After this, a member of the support staff of Rajasthan Royals hugged and consoled him.

Shubman Gill’s century ruined Vaibhav’s hard work
In this very important match, Rajasthan Royals, batting first, scored a strong score of 214/6 in 20 overs, thanks to Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s sensible 96 runs in 47 balls (8 fours, 7 sixes) and Donovan Ferreira’s cameo innings of 38 runs in 11 balls.

In reply, Gujarat Titans captain Shubhman Gill, who was chasing a huge target of 215 runs, played a captaincy inning of 104 runs (15 fours, 3 sixes) in 53 balls.

Gill along with Sai Sudarshan (58 runs) made a match-winning partnership of 167 runs and gave GT a historic win by 3 wickets. This is the biggest successful run-chase ever in the history of IPL playoffs.

Broke the ‘historic records’ of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell
Even though the journey of Rajasthan Royals is over, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has done something which has never been seen before in world cricket this season. In the 16 innings played this season, he scored a total of 776 runs at an excellent average of 48.50 and a stormy strike rate of 237.50, which included 1 century, 5 half-centuries and a total of 72 sixes.

Chris Gayle’s record broken: Earlier in the eliminator match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Vaibhav had played a sensational inning of 97 runs in 29 balls. His total number of sixes this season surpassed the record of 59 sixes made by Chris Gayle in IPL 2012. He hit a total of 19 sixes in the playoffs.

Beats Andre Russell: Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke Andre Russell’s record of becoming the fastest to complete 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced.

Vaibhav achieved this feat in just 440 balls. In terms of innings, he became the second fastest batsman to reach this magical figure in just 23 innings.
