Vaibhav Sooryavanshi entered the record books on May 31 as he became the youngest winner of the Orange Cap in the history of the Indian Premier League. He finished the IPL 2026 season as the highest run-getter after two challengers, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, failed to go past him during the final against RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The 15-year-old southpaw amassed 776 runs from 16 matches at an average of 48.5 and a strike-rate of 237.3.His scores of 97 and 96 during the two playoff games (Eliminator and Qualifier 2) against SRH and GT took him ahead of the competitors. Gill and Sudharsan had a chance to go past the Rajasthan Royals’ opener in the RCB vs GT final, but the pacers dismissed the two in-form players.
Gill was on 722 runs and Sudharsan on 710 before the start of the finale. However, the GT skipper managed just 10 runs while Sudharsan posted 12, taking their run count to 732 and 722, respectively.
Virat Kohli, who is on 600 runs, needed 176 runs to top the batting charts, but Gujarat managed 155 for 8 in their 20 overs.
Sooryavanshi is present at the venue for the final, and he was seen talking to ICC Chairman Jay Shah.
Sooryavanshi becomes the youngest winner of the Orange Cap in IPL history
At 15 years and 65 days, Vaibhav became the youngest winner of the Orange Cap in IPL history. He broke the record of GT opener Sai Sudharsan, who won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025 at 23 years and 237 days.
