India are set to compete against Afghanistan in a one-off Test and three ODIs. While the five-day game is scheduled to start on June 6, the ODI will be played from June 13. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the teams. Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma’s participation in ODIs is subject to fitness, as they struggled with fitness issues for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2026.
The board has told Hardik and Rohit to report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Hardik is set to reach the COE and will spend a week before the teammates for the upcoming assignment. However, there is no information on Rohit’s arrival.
Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey.
Jammu and Kashmir seamer Auqib Nabi Dar, who has been the best pacer in the Ranji Trophy in the past two seasons, has been added to the squad as a net bowler by the team management. Former players and fans slammed his non-selection for Afghanistan. Apart from him, six others have also been summoned.
UP leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, is also a part of the group.
“Auqib Nabi has been asked to join the national team.
The management has also called six others. Due to the heat, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna can’t bowl much in the nets, and the two were also involved in the IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans. However, the batters need practice,” a BCCI source privy to the development told PTI.Auqib claimed 60 wickets and guided Jammu and Kashmir to the Ranji Trophy triumph. His omission created controversy with former chairman of the selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar questioning the importance of the Ranji Trophy.
Auqib hasn’t yet been added to the 15-member squad, but he is a standby for Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
The players who were part of the IPL final are unlikely to train from the start.
Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan, Gurnoor Brar, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Manav Suthar and Washington Sundar represented GT in the 19th season and are now part of the Test team.
