Veteran Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was in the news recently for being axed as the T20I skipper. The 35-year-old was replaced by Shreyas Iyer as the new skipper, with the batter facing serious doubts about his future. Yadav didn’t have a great time with the bat in IPL 2026, where he scored just 270 runs for the Mumbai Indians side.
Fans were left confused when they saw the batter delete most of his stuff from his Instagram handle pertaining to the side. He had also unfollowed the five-time champions on social media. This created a lot of buzz amongst fans about whether the player was quitting the side after a poor campaign.
Hardik Pandya too had briefly unfollowed the side in the midst of the IPL 2026 season and later followed the side. As per reports, the 32-year-old has already communicated to the team management his desire to leave for a second time after the team’s ninth-place finish in the league.
The drama involving SKY and MI took yet another turn when the star player started to follow the Men in Blue and Gold once more. Fans were left confused by the behaviour from a player who has been a key part of the side and also helped them win two titles in 2019 and 2020.
Having made his IPL debut in 2012 as a 21-year-old, the batter didn’t get many chances to prove his worth. In 2014, the Mumbai-based player moved to Kolkata Knight Riderswhere he played four seasons and scored 608 runs from 54 games.
In 2018, Surya returned to the Wankhede Stadium and went on to play 125 games in total, scoring 3973 runs with two centuries and 38 fifties with an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 151.
His best season with the bat was in 2025, where he notched up 717 runs from 16 games with five half-centuries with an average of 65 and a strike-rate of 167. That season, the player managed to score 25 plus runs in each of the innings he had batted.
