Delhi: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which operates the Lord’s cricket ground, has recently expressed its dissatisfaction with the pitch used. In the Test match played between England and New Zealand, the dominance of the bowlers was so much that during the match a total of 40 wickets fell in just 166 overs. This situation has sparked a new debate regarding the quality of the pitch.
Uneven bounce became a topic of discussion
During the match, the ball was seen behaving unpredictably on several occasions. Some balls remained low, while others bounced up to the height of the batsmen’s bodies. The pattern of fall of wickets also indicated that the conditions were extremely challenging for the batsmen. Out of total 40 wickets, 24 batsmen were out bowled or LBW.
Eyes fixed on ICC report
Match referee Andy Pycroft is assessing the performance of the pitch. The International Cricket Council (ICC) may clarify next week whether the wicket was successful in providing a balanced competition between the batsmen and bowlers.
