India has picked Jasprit Bumrah in a strong squad for the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Japan in September this year. Shreyas Iyer, the newly-appointed T20I captain, will once again be in charge of the side that is very similar to the squad picked for the Ireland and England tours. Bumrah, who has been rested for those two tours, will spearhead India's bowling attack in the Asian Games. Mohammed Siraj and Prince Yadav, who are part of the squad for Ireland and England, have been omitted from the Asian Games.
India sent a second-string squad for the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, with a portion of the competition intersecting with the ODI World Cup that year.
With several big names - including then-captain Rohit Sharma - missing, Ruturaj Gaikwad led that team to a Gold medal. This year, the tournament will be held in the Aichi prefecture of Japan, with its capital city, Nagoya, being the hub for most of the action. The tournament will be held from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
