Delhi: England cricket seems to be standing in the midst of a big controversy at the moment and the reason for this is the team’s Test captain Ben Stokes. After the spectacular victory against New Zealand at Lord’s, the team which was being praised everywhere, is now raising questions on the same team. According to media reports, a few hours after the victory, Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson allegedly went out of the team hotel, where a dispute broke out in a nightclub.

It is being said that after this incident, the England Cricket Board has taken the matter seriously and started investigation. The board says that the violation of team rules is being investigated and due to this the discussion regarding team selection for the next test has also intensified.

Reports have claimed that there was an altercation with some rugby players in the nightclub and the matter escalated so much that even the security personnel present there got hurt. However, it is also being said that Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were not directly involved in any aggressive behavior.

Despite this, the biggest question arising is why both the players went out late at night despite the team rules. Meanwhile, some reports in the British media have made this matter more serious. It is being claimed that Ben Stokes may consider leaving the captaincy and even speculations about his retirement from international cricket have intensified.

If this happens then it will be considered a big blow for English cricket. Ben Stokes is not just a player but is considered the face of England’s new aggressive cricket thinking.

From leading the team to victory in difficult situations to brilliant performances in big matches, Stokes has proved himself to be a match winner many times. However, this would not be the first time that his name is linked to some controversy. Even before this, in the year 2017, he had to be dropped from the team after a night club dispute. Now all eyes are on the next decision of the England Cricket Board, because this matter can change the direction of England cricket.
