Delhi: The Indian cricket team can play a two-match Test series on Sri Lanka tour in August this year. According to the proposed schedule, the first match of the series is likely to be played at the historic Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka from 15 to 19 August. These two teams will face each other under the current ICC World Test Championship cycle.
According to information received from sources, the Indian team will be led by Shubman Gill and the first match of the series can be held at Galle Ground in Southern Sri Lanka. However, the official schedule has not been released yet by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The second and final Test of the series is likely to start from August 23. The venue of this match has not been finalized yet, but the Sinhala Sports Club ground in Colombo is considered to be the strongest contender.
If this happens, the second Test between the two teams will be played in the capital of Sri Lanka.The Indian team will play the Test series in Sri Lanka after a long gap. Earlier, India had visited Sri Lanka in the year 2017. At that time, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the Indian team performed brilliantly and completely wiped out the host team.
Apart from the Test matches, there is also a possibility of three T20 International matches being organized between the two countries.
Talks in this regard are ongoing and a decision will be taken once the program is finalized. Indian Board Secretary Devjit Saikia has also indicated that a request has been received regarding three T20 matches and a final decision will be taken soon.Sri Lanka’s domestic T20 competition Lanka Premier League will end on August 9. In such a situation, it is believed that if the T20 series is organized then its matches can be held after the end of the Test series.
Sri Lanka Cricket is currently busy finalizing the outline of the entire tour and the option of including T20 matches is also being seriously considered.
