Delhi : Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has added a new chapter in the history of Indian cricket with the match played against Afghanistan in Dharamshala. Rohit became the oldest player to play ODI cricket for India when he entered the field at the age of 39 years and 44 days. With this, a 37-year-old record was broken, which till now was in the name of 1983 World Cup winner Mohinder Amarnath.

Mohinder Amarnath played his last ODI for India in 1989 at the age of 39 years and 36 days.

Rohit Sharma, who returned to the team after passing the fitness test before this series, looked fully prepared. However, the Indian team suffered a big blow when Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were out of this series due to injury. In such a situation, the responsibility of the team largely fell on the experience of Rohit Sharma. As captain, not only big innings were expected from him, but the responsibility of handling the young players and giving the right direction to the team also appeared on his shoulders.

For Rohit Sharma, this record is not only an achievement but is also being considered as a sign of the next phase of his career. After retiring from shorter format and Test cricket, his entire focus is now on the 2027 World Cup. Rohit will try to bid goodbye to this format in a memorable manner by winning another World Cup for India. However, increasing age, fitness and pressure of continuous performance will remain a big challenge for him. In such a situation, every match will now be considered no less than a big test for Rohit Sharma.
