Australia’s batsmen crumbled in Dhaka on Thursday, tumbling early in the first ODI against Bangladesh. Fast bowlers from the home side struck fast, smashing stumps before any runs showed up, trapping the tourists at 3 down with nothing on the board. Pressure built instantly, sparked by sharp swings and relentless lines that offered no breathing room.
Australia found themselves at 0 for 3, a moment never seen before in their ODI past. This stumble joined just three others in men’s one-day internationals where all the top three batters fell without adding a run.
The sharp early surge by Bangladesh’s seamers carved out something rare, turning overs into pressure right from the start.Right away, things went south for Australia when skipper Josh Inglis chose to bat. Off the second over, Taskin Ahmed found quick success – Matthew Short went on the fourth delivery, a sharp blow that lifted Bangladesh early.
Bursting onto the scene, Mustafizur Rahman rattled things early with a stunning spell – two wickets in one over, both falling silent in quick succession.
The very first ball did for Cooper Connolly, bowled clean through. Then came Matt Renshaw, undone by the last throw of that same over, leg stumped back. Suddenly, Australia stood shattered – three down without a run, only ten balls faced.Besides the struggle, Australia’s initial score arrived off a no-ball, highlighting how firmly Bangladesh controlled things early on. From the outset, Taskin, along with Mustafizur, made full use of the conditions, bending the ball sharply while staying precise; this unraveled something rarely seen before.
Back then, when Josh Inglis won the toss leading Australia, he went straight for batting without much pause.
His hope? The team would do better than they have recently.“We will bat first. We can improve all three facets of the game, with small margins, but we’re looking to improve. Riley Meredith replaces Liam Scott. Just a bit more pace for us,” Inglis said.
Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz gave credit to his bowlers following a solid opening spell, while highlighting that longer stands with the bat would be key next. What matters now is backing up that early edge in the field.
“It was an excellent first match and a great opportunity today to win the series.
We need more partnerships with the bat, the bowlers are doing well, and we need to build momentum,” Mehidy said.Out front, the team swapped Saif Hassan for seasoned player Soumya Sarkar. A single tweak marked their revised batting order.
“It’s unfortunate for Saif, but Soumya is batting well in the last few matches and has the experience,” Mehidy added.
