Delhi: India’s new T20 captain Shreyas Iyer on Wednesday made a record in his name on the soil of England, which no Indian captain had been able to achieve till now. Iyer became the first captain of India to score a half-century during a T20 International match in England. He completed his fiftieth innings by taking one run off the ball of Liam Dawson in the 15th over.

This was also the ninth half-century of his T20I career.

Returned to the pavilion after playing a brilliant inning of 68 runs.

Shreyas Iyer showed an excellent balance of restraint and aggression and scored 68 runs in 47 balls. His innings played an important role in putting the Indian team in a strong position. However, he was out LBW on the ball of Saqib Mahmood in the 18th over of the innings. Iyer completed his half-century in 39 balls, which was also the slowest half-century of his career in T20 International cricket.

Virat Kohli’s record left behind

With this brilliant performance, Shreyas Iyer also left behind a special record recorded in the name of Virat Kohli.

Earlier, the highest score by an Indian T20 captain in England was 47 runs, which was scored by Virat Kohli in Cardiff in 2018. Now Iyer has reached the top of this list by scoring 68 runs.

Steve Smith still holds the biggest record

If we talk about the biggest innings as captain in T20 International cricket in England, then this record is in the name of former Australia captain Steve Smith. He played a brilliant inning of 90 runs in 53 balls in Cardiff in the year 2015.

Second in this list is former West Indies captain Chris Gayle, who scored 88 runs in 50 balls at The Oval ground in 2009. Shreyas Iyer’s name has also now been registered in this prestigious list as a new achievement for Indian cricket.
