The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the dates for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which will be staged in Galle and Colombo later this year.
The first match of the tour has been scheduled to commence on 15th August at the Galle International Stadium, while the second and final match will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo, starting on 23rd August. Both matches will start at 10:00 AM IST as part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
Led by Shubman Gill, India ranks fifth in the World Test Championship table with four wins and four losses from nine matches. Their PCT (Percentage of Points) is 48.15, and they aim to improve their position during the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.
The Test match series will be played in a busy month for the Men in Blue as they prepare for the white-ball fixtures. India needs to face Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series from their recent England tour before heading to Sri Lanka.
Their campaign in England got off to a disappointing start when the first T20I match was canceled due to rain. However, the visitors displayed a brilliant show of character and posted a competitive total after being asked to bat first.Chasing the target of 190, Abhishek Sharma and Iyer kept the run-rate in check before the rain finally halted the game. Sharma remained the aggressor in the innings, smashing 59 from 24 deliveries, while captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with a well-played 67. Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 42 from 21 balls.
India lost the first two wickets in quick succession but recovered in the form of Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan.
Meanwhile, young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had to wait for his T20I debut as Abhishek Sharma and Iyer laid the platform for a competitive total before the rain interrupted the game.
