England have added a crucial member to their current three-match ODI series against India by recalling pace bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse to the squad after his recovery from wrist and elbow injuries.

The 30-year-old has been forced to spend several months out of the game, but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is confident that the right-arm bowler will contribute significantly to the team, as he made three appearances during the Vitality Blast for Durham County. This will provide England with an additional bowling option for the remainder of the fixtures.

Brydon Carse returns after lengthy rehabilitation

Brydon Carse’s inclusion follows his return from a rehabilitation programme, having recovered from injury. The seamer has been in fine form with a five-wicket haul in his last ODI against New Zealand in Wellington back in November 2025. His recovery has allowed him to return to the England set-up as an all-rounder.

England announced the latest ODI squad on Tuesday, with the player set to join up with Harry Brook’s men for their final two matches in the series.

Since his debut in 2021, Carse has proven to be a more than handy all-rounder for England.

He has bagged 34 wickets in 30 ODIs with a healthy economy of 40.44 per innings, including a career-best five-wicket haul. In his batting, Carse has provided the lower order with much-needed strength, with 264 runs at 17.60.

England would have been hoping that the seamer’s return would allow them to build upon their 4-0 series win over India in the T20 series. Brydon Carse’s ability to provide both the strike with his pace, extract bounce, and plug in useful runs with the bat gives them a better balance in the 50-over format.

The ODI series got underway at Edgbaston with the final two matches scheduled to be played in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on July 16 and Lord’s, London, on July 19.
