England changed its history in ODI cricket by destroying the Indian bowling attack at the historic ground of Lord’s. Batting first in the third ODI, the English batsmen scored a huge score of 387 runs, which is England’s highest score till date in any ODI match against India. Earlier, England’s highest score against India was 366 runs, which they made in Cuttack in 2017.
The foundation of this historic innings of England was laid by the brilliant century of opener Ben Duckett and half-century of Joe Root. The pair of Duckett and Root made the Indian bowlers yearn for wickets. The beginning of this innings was also very aggressive, where the openers made a partnership of 192 runs. This has proved to be the biggest opening partnership ever against India at Lord’s.
Not only the total score, but England also showed its aggression in the last moments of the innings. By scoring 126 runs between 41 and 50 overs, England has secured the third position in the list of teams scoring the most runs in this period against India. South Africa (144 runs) tops this list.
This performance of England on the Lord’s pitch also highlights the weaknesses of Indian bowling. Once again in the series, Joe Root’s bat overpowered the Indian bowlers, whom the Indian bowlers have failed to dismiss in the entire series. Now it will be interesting to see whether the Indian batsmen are able to chase this huge target or England continues to dominate the series with this historic performance.
