Pakistan captain Babar Azam says he is willing to bat anywhere in the order to meet the team's needs.

Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has reaffirmed his commitment to putting the team first, stating that he is prepared to bat in any position required by the side.

The 31-year-old emphasised that he has never insisted on batting in a specific role. Throughout his career, Azam has occupied multiple positions in the lineup, ranging from No. 6 to opener, including opening in Test cricket. He said he does not believe a change in batting position would negatively affect his performances and remains ready to adapt whenever the team requires.

“I’ve never had any personal goal that I must play as an opener,” Azam said.

“I started at number six and moved up and down the order before becoming an opener. I’ve never said I wouldn’t play at a certain position because it might affect my performance. I’m ready to bat at any number according to the team’s requirements.”

Azam was recently reappointed as Pakistan’s Test captain and is set to lead the side in an upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to take place in Trinidad and Tobago from July 25 to August 6.

Following that tour, Pakistan will travel to England for a three-Test series running from August 19 to September 13.

Pakistan’s squad for the West Indies series includes Babar Azam, Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Fazal, Ali Usman, Azan Awais, Imam-ul-Haq, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Rizwan, Awais Zafar, Ghazi Ghori, Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Shan Masood and Ubaid Shah.

For the England series, the squad remains largely unchanged, with Saud Shakeel included subject to fitness.
