Delhi:Team India won the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe 3-0, but even after this victory, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar is not completely satisfied with the team’s performance. Expressing displeasure over the poor fielding of the players, he has advised the selectors to take strict action.

India white-washed Zimbabwe in the series, but dropped many easy catches and made many fielding mistakes in all three matches. Earlier, the team’s fielding had also been a matter of concern in the white-ball series against Ireland and England. India had lost 0-2 in the T20 series against Ireland, while Team India also had to face defeat in the T20 and ODI series against England.

‘Average fielder should not get a place in the team’

In his column written in Sportstar, Sunil Gavaskar said that if a player is average in fielding then he should be dropped from the team.

Gavaskar wrote,

‘If a player is an average fielder then he should be dropped from the team. The captain should not keep three or four such players hidden in the hope that the ball will not go to them.

Since IPL 2026, Shivam Dubey has also dropped many easy catches in fielding. His performance for both Chennai Super Kings and Team India has been disappointing in this department.

Gave important advice to the batsmen also

Gavaskar raised questions not only on fielding but also on the attitude of Indian batsmen. He said that in the T20 and ODI series against England, the batsmen did not bat according to the situation of the match.

According to him, batsmen should not play shots according to their image but according to the quality of the ball.

He said,

‘Shot selection is very important. The batsman should control his ego and not play big shots just to maintain his image. Aggressive play is necessary in T20, but in ODI, we get time to play for a while first.
