The BCCI senior selection committee has named the India squad for the upcoming two-match test series against Sri Lanka, which features the return of Ravindra Jadeja.
However, Washington Sundar has been ruled out due to his injury. Uncapped off-spinner Saransh Jain has received his maiden call-up and will be replacing the injured all-rounder.
Washington Sundar was ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury during the England tour.
The 33-year old Saransh Jain is also a handy lower-middle order batter, impressed for India A in Sri Lanka. In the second day four-day match against Sri Lanka A in Galle, he picked six wickets in two games and scored a 70 not out at No. 7 to help India A win by 10 wickets.
Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan were named in the 15-member squad, but are subject to fitness clearance from BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
“Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah’s availability will be subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI COE,” said a BCCI statement.
On the other hand, Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy were not considered in selection contention for the test series after they sustained hamstring injuries at different times and are currently in the middle of an intense rehabilitation programme.
Shubman Gill will be leading the side while KL Rahul has been named as his deputy. The batting lineup features Gill, Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal.
The Spin department features Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain, while the fast bowler department features Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar.
The side will be starting their four-day practice match in Colombo, starting on August 7, ahead of the two-match test series.
With India securing fifth spot, Sri Lanka are in the sixth position of the WTC 2025-27 points table. The first test will be played on August 15 at Galle International Stadium, Galle.
