Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff is set to make Durand Cup football tournament debut as he was named in Mumbay FC squad.

Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia, and this year is the 135th edition. Mumbay qualified after winning the Maharashtra State League.

The news of Shroff making it to the squad was confirmed by Mumbay’s Technical Director Zoheb Khan. Shroff has been associated with the club since its inception in 2024.

It was in October 2024 that Shroff made his professional football debut for Mumbay in the Mumbai Premier League. He was signed as the club’s marquee player.

Zoheb said Shroff was training with the team and would travel with them for “one of the games”.

“He’s registered with the squad, and we are trying our best to arrange everything. A person like Tiger, we’ll need a lot of security in tier-2, tier-3 cities. People can gather around, and it could be chaotic,” Zoheb told Sports stars.

“And since social media is so ruthless, things can actually escalate. Keeping that in mind, we’ve got a date from him. If everything goes well, he will definitely travel for one of the games. He’s training with the team at the moment,” he added.

He also recalled how it all began for Shroff. “It was during an influencers league with personalities and former sportspersons in 2023 that I realised that Tiger can play; he has that technical understanding of the game. When we found the club, I asked him to come and join us for practice sessions. He likes that slide tackle, those dribbling 1v1 moments.

Mumbay’s matches

Mumbay are in Group E and play their group matches in Shillong. Their opening game is against Langsning FC on August 3 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Mumbay’s remaining group contests are against Shillong Lajong on August 8, and Nongkseh SS & CC on August 11.
