The difficulties of defending champion Australia seem to be increasing before the ICC ODI World Cup to be held in the year 2027. Troubled by the continuous injuries and busy schedule of the players, Australian team head coach Andrew McDonald has made a big demand before the International Cricket Council. He has requested to increase the number of players in the squad for the tournament, so that long and difficult competitions can be tackled easily.

The team is struggling with the problem of injured players.

During a radio interview, coach Andrew McDonald argued that under the current rules, only 15 players are allowed to select a squad. In such a situation, if 2-3 players get injured in the initial stages of the tournament, then the captain and selectors are left with only 12-13 fit players to choose from. Giving the example of the 2023 World Cup, he said that due to Travis Head’s finger injury, the team had to face a lot of trouble in the initial matches.

It is very important to have a big squad to strike the right balance between the changing conditions in different countries.
