Delhi: On the first day of the first Test being played between Australia and Bangladesh at Marara Cricket Ground in Darwin, the host team's first innings was reduced to 198 runs. Australia's decision to bat first after winning the toss proved wrong in the beginning itself. Bangladesh bowlers did not give the Australian batsmen a chance to play freely by taking wickets at regular intervals.

Steve Smith took over the Australian innings

Steve Smith played the biggest innings for Australia. He scored 71 runs on 109 balls and hit seven fours and one six in his innings. Smith kept one end under control, but due to wickets falling from the other end, he could not take the team to a big score.

Travis Head and Jake Weatherald also scored useful runs.

Travis Head contributed 22 runs and Jake Weatherald contributed 23 runs. Alex Carey scored 19 runs, while Cameron Green scored 13 runs. Beau Webster scored a quick 12 runs. Captain Pat Cummins was out after scoring 9 runs. Australia's lower order batsmen also could not last long against the Bangladeshi bowlers.

Hasan Mahmood created havoc

Hasan Mahmood was the biggest hero of Bangladesh's bowling. He took 6 wickets for 55 runs in 17 overs. Australia's batting order appeared to be under constant pressure in front of his accurate bowling.

Taskin Ahmed and Ibadat Hussain also took two wickets each. Both these bowlers prevented Australia from scoring big by breaking partnerships at important moments. Mehdi Hasan Miraj and Taijul Islam did not get any wicket.

Despite Smith's efforts, a big score was not made

At one time Australia had lost five wickets for 129 runs. After this, Smith along with the lower order batsmen took the score forward. However, Bangladesh bowlers maintained their dominance till the end and sent the entire Australian team to the pavilion in 53 overs.

Now a big challenge before Bangladesh

After Australia's first innings ended on 198 runs, Bangladesh batsmen now have a chance to put their team in a strong position. Bangladesh has started its first innings in the third session of the first day, and will have to score 199 runs to surpass Australia's score.

It is noteworthy that Bangladesh has performed impressively with the ball in the very beginning of the first test. Now the outcome of the match will largely depend on how strongly the Bangladesh batsmen face the Australian bowling attack.
