Gautam Gambhir has completed two years as the Indian coach, but there are massive doubts over his position in the Test format. India haven’t done well in the red-ball format. The team fumbled a chance to make it to the WTC final in 2025 after successive losses against New Zealand and Australia.

As per reports carried by RevSportz, the Indian coach is not facing any threat of being sacked in the Test format.

It was reported that BCCI is very well aware of the fact that the team is currently in a transition phase. Retirements of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin from the format haven’t helped the cause either.

The second reason is the number of injuries the team have suffered in the last year.

Even the current series against Sri Lanka has seen jasprit bumrah and Sai Sudharsan being ruled out. There is also a very slim chance that Washington Sundar could make the trip after he injured himself during the Cardiff ODI versus England.

Revsportz also reported that if Gambhir is sacked as the Test coach, then appointing an interim name is not going to happen. India have two series left in the current WTC cycle, after the Lankan tour. They play New Zealand in 2 away games and then host Australia for a five-match series.

It was also reported that VVS Laxman is happy with his role at the CoE, which rules out the legendary batter’s return to the dugout.

Former India teammate wants BCCI to give Gambhir some more time

Amit Mishra, who has played with Gautam Gambhir both for India and in the IPL, said that the 44-year-old deserved more time. Speaking to Times of India, the former Delhi Capitals star said, “It is tough for a coach, and the players have to take more responsibility.

It has been normal for Indian cricket to have the same coach in all formats.”

Mishra added, “You have to give time to any new coach, and the current players in the Test squad don’t have much experience. It takes time for all the concerned parties to develop. Even Rahul Dravid took some time to establish himself, and then the performances improved. Cricketers have to be more responsible and adapt as per the situation and wickets.

That’s why they are playing at the top, and the coach shouldn’t be blamed. Gambhir should be given some more time in Test cricket.”
