2026 SL vs IND 1st Test Playing 11: Dhananjaya de Silva-led Sri Lanka will square off against Shubman Gill-led India in the 1st Test starting on August 15 at Galle International Stadium, Galle.

The two-match Test series will be part of the WTC 2025-27 cycle, which could be crucial for both sides in the World Test Championship cycle.

The cricketing sides have met on 46 occasions, with India having 22 wins, Sri Lanka 7, and 17 games ending in a draw.

Currently, India is in 5th position in the WTC 2025-27 points table while Sri Lanka sit below in 6th place.

India won the toss and opted to bat.

Speaking on today’s India cricket team playing 11, Shubman Gill said, “We’ve gone with the same playing XI that we played in the last match. We’ve got five bowlers, two fast bowlers and three spinners.”

“Very big honour for me, every time you get an opportunity to lead your country, and even more so special on this occasion. Independence Day for us and the 600th Test match, so looking forward,” concluded Gill.

Meanwhile, Dhananjaya de Silva said, “Yeah, it (pitch) looks good. I was hoping to bat as well. It’s quite dry as well.

Speaking today, Sri Lanka’s cricket team is playing 11, Dhananjaya de Silva said, “Nishan Madushka comes in for Pathum Nissanka and Niroshan Dickwella will be keeping, and Keshara will be debuting today. Two fast bowlers, two spinners, and two all-rounders, including Sonal Dinusha and me.”

“To be part of this Test match, it’s an iconic ground, and yeah, I’m very happy to play this match as well.”
