Matt Renshaw has been named in the Australia playing XI for the second test against Bangladesh, replacing Jake Weatherald.

Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon has secured his spot as Australia lock in their playing 11 against Bangladesh. Speaking to reporters on August 21, Australia captain Pat Cummins suggested a four-pronged pace attack that included Scott Boland, at the expense of veteran spinner Nathan Lyon.

However, after the pitch inspections, Cummins confirmed that Lyon held his spot for the match and Boland will be missing out alongside wk-batter Josh Inglis.

Renshaw will be in alongside Travis Head for the second test of the Bangladesh tour of Australia 2026, as Jake Weatherald was dropped earlier this week.

Matth Renshaw will be returning to the test format after three years, and Cummins is confident over 30-year old return to his test setup.

“We just want his best,” Cummins said. “I think some of the kind of chat about Renner’s in the past is that he can look different from day to day.”

“I think now, when you get to the back half of your career as a batter, you want to really know what you look like at your best, and I think he does that.”

“That’s the hope with Renners is to keep bringing your best version every day. That’s being nice and sharp, putting a bit of pressure back on the bowlers.”

Despite a loss in the 1st test, Australia retained their top spot in the WTC 2025-27 points table. The second test will begin on August 22 at Great Barrier Reef Arena, South Mackay.
