Mumbai Indians have appointed Zubin Bharucha as their new Director of Performance ahead of IPL 2027, bringing the former Rajasthan Royals high-performance chief into their support structure.
The appointment gives MI access to a specialist known for identifying and developing young talent. Bharucha's work at Rajasthan Royals included involvement in the development of several emerging players, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag.
Mumbai Indians confirmed Bharucha's appointment on August 21, with the 5-time IPL champions adding him to their existing multi-disciplinary leadership group.
The franchise said Bharucha will work across performance disciplines and contribute to MI's player-development programme.
"Zubin Bharucha joins Mumbai Indians as Director of Performance, and will work closely with the current multi-disciplinary leadership group across all performance disciplines within the MI ecosystem," Mumbai Indians said.
The franchise also said Bharucha will work with its existing support staff to strengthen its approach to player development.
Bharucha arrives at MI after building a strong reputation during his time with Rajasthan Royals, where he served as Director of High Performance.

Bharucha's appointment is particularly interesting because of his role in identifying Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as a special talent at a very young age.
During Rajasthan Royals trials, Bharucha tested the teenager against high-speed bowling and backed the franchise to invest in him.
Sooryavanshi subsequently became the youngest player to score an IPL century, hitting a 35-ball hundred at the age of 14.
His rapid rise has become one of the strongest examples of the talent-development model associated with Bharucha's work at Rajasthan Royals.
Bharucha was also involved in Yashasvi Jaiswal's development after the batter struggled during the early stages of his IPL career.
He worked on Jaiswal's batting technique and introduced power-hitting drills designed to improve his range and boundary-hitting ability.
His work extended to other Rajasthan Royals players, including Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson.
Bharucha worked with Jurel on his finishing skills, while Parag and Samson were among the players who benefited from his focus on technique and mental preparation.
Bharucha's appointment comes after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign for Mumbai Indians.
The franchise finished ninth in the points table after winning four of their 14 league matches and missed out on the playoffs.
Ryan Rickelton was MI's leading run-scorer with 448 runs, while Allah Ghazanfar finished as their leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets.
Tilak Varma also produced two standout performances, including an unbeaten 101 off 45 balls against Gujarat Titans.
MI began the season with a win over Kolkata Knight Riders but failed to maintain that momentum across the campaign.
The addition of Bharucha therefore points towards a greater focus on player development as Mumbai Indians prepare for IPL 2027, particularly as franchises continue to place greater value on identifying and nurturing young talent.
