SLVSIND: Half-centuries for Pant and Jurel; India 419-6 at lunch.

Colombo. With the help of unbeaten half-centuries from Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel, India scored 419 runs for six wickets till lunch on Monday on the second day of the second and final Test cricket match against Sri Lanka.

India advanced its innings to 300 runs for five wickets in the morning and added 119 runs in the first session. Meanwhile, the Indian team lost the wicket of Saransh Jain (06), who was playing his first Test.

At lunch, Pant was playing on 63 and Jurel was on 59. Both of them have so far added 112 runs for the seventh wicket. Sri Lanka got immediate success on the second morning when Asitha Fernando had Jain caught at second slip.

Pant was retired hurt on the first day of the match on Sunday after being hit on his hand by a ball from Lahiru Kumara. He extended his innings by three runs.

He allayed injury concerns by spending more than two hours at the crease.

Looking at Pant's innings, it might seem that it would have been easy for him but in reality it was not so. Fast bowlers Fernando and Kumara targeted his body with a barrage of bouncers. Pant faced it well.

Meanwhile, the left-handed batsman hit Kumara's ball for a six over fine leg. Pant, who scored 66 runs in the second innings of the first Test match in Galle, completed his half-century in 81 balls by hitting a four with a pull shot off off-spinner Keshara Nuwanta. After this, this wicketkeeper batsman hit a six off the ball of left arm spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya.

Jurel also performed brilliantly. He completed his second half-century in this series by hitting a four off Jayasuriya.
