IND vs SL Day 2 Highlights: India tightened their grip on the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo after declaring their first innings at 503/9 on Day 2. Devdutt Padikkal's 117 and Dhruv Jurel's unbeaten 115 formed the backbone of India's imposing total, while Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill also made valuable half-centuries.

Sri Lanka then endured a difficult final passage of the day, losing two wickets in just three overs. The hosts reached 8/2 at stumps and will begin Day 3 trailing India by 495 runs, leaving them with a huge task ahead.

Padikkal Hits Century As India Build 503

India resumed their innings with the advantage and continued to pile pressure on Sri Lanka's bowlers.

Padikkal produced one of the standout innings of the day, scoring 117 from 193 deliveries. His patient knock included 12 fours and provided India with a crucial top-order contribution.

Jurel then took charge in the middle and lower order. The wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 115 from 177 balls, striking nine fours and two sixes.

Jurel's century was his second in Test cricket and came after he took a risky single to reach three figures.

He later celebrated by displaying the "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" slogan written on his hand.

The 115-run knock also made Jurel only the second Indian batter to score a Test century at No. 7 or lower in Sri Lanka, after Hardik Pandya's 108 in Pallekele in 2017.

Pant, Gill And Jadeja Add To Sri Lanka's Problems

India's top and middle order also made important contributions as the visitors moved towards a commanding total.

Pant scored 63 from 89 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes, while Gill made 50 from 108 deliveries with six boundaries.

Ravindra Jadeja added a useful 43 from 83 balls before being dismissed by Asitha Fernando. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed 45, while KL Rahul made 18.

Saransh Jain, making his Test debut, scored six before falling to Asitha. Manav Suthar made 18, while Mohammed Siraj was dismissed for three.

India eventually declared at 503/9 after 138 overs, with Jurel unbeaten on 115 and Prasidh Krishna on four.

Asitha Fernando Leads Sri Lanka's Bowling Attack

Asitha Fernando was Sri Lanka's most successful bowler, finishing with four wickets for 106 runs from 29 overs.

Keshara Nuwantha claimed two wickets, while Prabath Jayasuriya also took two. Lahiru Kumara picked up one wicket.

Sri Lanka's bowlers managed to create some breakthroughs, but India's long batting effort ultimately allowed the visitors to post a total that put them firmly in control of the Test.

Sri Lanka Lose Two Wickets Before Stumps

Sri Lanka's reply could hardly have started worse.

The hosts lost Lahiru Udara for one after he edged Prasidh Krishna behind, with Yashasvi Jaiswal completing the catch.

Prabath Jayasuriya then fell for two after being trapped lbw by debutant Manav Suthar.

Sri Lanka finished the day on 8/2 after three overs, with Kamil Mishara unbeaten on five.

The hosts still have a long way to go to erase India's 495-run lead, with Pasindu Sooriyabandara, Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Sonal Dinusha, Niroshan Dickwella, Keshara Nuwantha, Lahiru Kumara and Asitha Fernando yet to bat.

India will look to strike early on Day 3 and put Sri Lanka under further pressure, while the hosts face the daunting task of surviving against an Indian attack with a massive deficit already on the board.
