Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on Sunday impressed in his first stint as captain as he opted for a quick Decision Review System (DRS) call that got East Zone a crucial wicket against Central Zone in their Duleep Trophy semifinal in Bengaluru.
The 15-year-old stepped in as leader after East Zone skipper went off the field during the first sessions, due to a finger injury on his right hand.
In the 40th over, Aryan Juyal, batting on 46, poked hard outside off against Mukesh Kumar. The East Zone players went up in appeal for a caught behind dismissal, only for the on-field umpire to deny them.
Even as some players looked uncertain whether to refer the decision or not, Sooryavanshi trusted his instinct and went ahead with the DRS.
The UltraEdge showed a small spike as the ball passed the bat, leading to Juyal’s wicket and getting East Zone a stronger hold over Central’s innings on the opening day.
