Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sought their opinion from all the franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) regarding the Impact Player rule. It is known that under this rule, teams get a chance to use an additional player as the 12th player during the match. There was a lot of debate about this rule last season. Now the franchisees have been asked to give their feedback by 31st August.

Impact player rule becomes the biggest issue

BCCI has recently sent a message to the teams asking for suggestions on many cricket operational matters to the last season. These include umpiring, practice sessions, playing conditions and other match issues. However, the opinion sought on the impact player rule has attracted the most attention.

There have been two different opinions regarding this rule in the cricket world for a long time. Its supporters believe that this gives teams more options in strategy. At the same time, those who oppose say that the use of extra players gives more advantage to the batting than required and makes the competition difficult for the bowlers.

Many players including Rohit, Hardik have protested

Many big players of India have already expressed their displeasure over the Impact Player rule. Players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Akshar Patel and Shubman Gill have expressed their opinion against it. He believes that this system can affect the balance of the game.

Despite this, not all franchisees are against this rule. Some teams in IPL also like this rule, because it gives additional option to change the team composition according to the circumstances during the match.

Increased uncertainty regarding the next season

The special thing is that some time ago, during the captains' meeting, there were indications that the impact player rule will be continued for at least one more season. In such a situation, due to the opinion being sought again on this issue, questions have been raised about the future of the rule in the next season.

It is noteworthy that after receiving the responses from the franchises, BCCI will review these issues and a decision on necessary changes can be taken before the next IPL season.
