The cold and green top pitches of New Zealand have always been a huge test for the visiting seamers. As the Indian team prepares for the two-Test assignment that begins on November 19, 2026, following a closely fought five-match ODI series, the national selectors have made it clear that speed, bounce, and seam movement will be the order of the day.

The reports suggest that the selectors may go with a bulk five-member fast bowling attack for the Tests. Though Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will continue to lead the attack, India is looking to nurture the young seamers for the windy conditions of New Zealand.

1. Auqib Nabi

No pacer has hogged more limelight in the ongoing 2025-26 Ranji Trophy than Jammu and Kashmir's very own Auqib Nabi. The right-arm swing bowler had a memorable season, bagging 60 wickets at an astonishing average of 12.56 to finish as the tournament's leading wicket-taker.

The uncanny ability to late-swing the brand new ball has made him a hot favorite in no time.

Being well aware of his ability to bowl in seaming conditions, BCCI has already sent him to play for Surrey in the County Championship to get him accustomed to the seamy tracks of SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia).

While he was called up for India's recent Test assignment in Sri Lanka, he remained a bench-warmer. However, the 22-year-old has been tipped to make it to the squad for the upcoming series in New Zealand. But the recent reports suggest that Nabi might miss out on the tour, as the selectors prefer Siraj and Prasidh Krishna's experience and extra pace in the conditions of New Zealand.

2. Gurnoor Brar

The lanky pacer brings in the variety that the Indian selectors have been craving for all along. The right-arm fast bowler from Punjab has an added advantage of troubling the batters with his steep bounce from the front foot.

Born in May 2000, Brar has been in consistent form ever since he was handed the gloves to play for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy. However, after tagging along for the Test tour in Sri Lanka, the hard-hitting pacer did not see any action. Brar was straightaway thrown into the deep end with heavy red-ball action on return home.

But the 22-year-old responded in the best possible fashion by picking up 3 wickets in the tour match against Sri Lanka 'A', followed by a match-winning 5-wicket haul for North Zone in the Duleep Trophy semi-final. In the news of the five-man shortlist for the New Zealand series, Brar has been included as a replacement for a tall fast bowler. With his height and bounce, Brar can trouble the Kiwis on their bouncy tracks.

3. Akash Deep

While new names are being added to the red-ball conversation, Akash Deep has emerged as one of the most reliable workhorses for the Indian team in recent times. The off-spinner from Bengal has maintained his consistency ever since his electrifying cameo during India's recent Test assignment in England.

Akash Deep is the kind of bowler who can continuously trouble the batters on the steep bounce and pace of New Zealand's turf. He is known to peg back the scoring rate with his pinpoint accuracy and the angle he extracts out of the seam. With 18 wickets in his last 4 Ranji Trophy matches, the 27-year-old pacer has been in sublime form.

After a consistent show in the limited-overs assignments, he was also called up for the Test assignment in England.
