India’s Smriti Mandhana is close to becoming the leading run-scorer in women’s T20Is after her knock during the Asia Cup final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

Smriti is just eight runs short of overtaking the record currently held by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates. Bates, who retired from the format earlier this year after the T20 World Cup, has 4758 runs to her name.

The left-hander smacked a 39-ball 59 against the Lankans in the summit clash before she was run out. Her tally now stands at 4751 runs.

Also in the top-five list are India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu.

Earlier in the tournament, Smriti also hacked down a bunch of records, including becoming the all-time top-scorer in women’s international cricket across formats.
